95 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Richard Hamilton received a BA in liberal arts from the University of Chicago in 1950 and an MA in sociology from Columbia University in 1953. Dr. Hamilton achieved his PhD in sociology from Columbia University in 1963. Specializing in political sociology, social movements, the stratification of race, class relations and gender relations, Dr. Hamilton’s current areas of interest include political and social change in the United States, Canada, Britain, France and Germany. With his expertise, Dr. Hamilton has taught at various institutions of higher learning since 1957. With several decades of teaching experience, Dr. Hamilton commenced his career as an instructor at Skidmore College in 1957. In 1959, he became an instructor at the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University before teaching at Princeton University as an assistant professor for two years. In 1966, Dr. Hamilton moved to the Midwest to teach at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an associate professor and then professor. Subsequently, he taught at McGill University in Montreal from 1970 to 1986 before settling down at The Ohio State University, where he served as a professor of sociology and political science in the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. He currently holds the title of professor emeritus. For his excellence in teaching, Dr. Hamilton was the recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award from Ohio State in 1993. The recipient of numerous grants and scholarships nationwide, Dr. Hamilton is most proud of his work with his students at the Mershon Center. Dr. Hamilton is a member of the Council for European Studies and sat on its steering committee from 1975 to 1978. He was also a member of the Inter-Universal Consortium for Political and Social Research from 1975 to 1979. Dr. Hamilton has written more than 15 books and 70 articles, primarily dealing with elite- and mass-politics and their interconnections.
