38 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A lyce Mae Nielson has gone down many paths in her life, but no matter the direction, she always found joy in helping people. She received an AS in food from the State University of New York at Cobleskill in 1963 and then began her career within the field of helping others. A member of 4-H from 9 years old until college, she participated in many demonstrations, acquiring the skills to make and model her own dresses; however, her favorite part of her program was working in the kitchen. Ms. Nielson worked as a lecturer, trainer, group leader and center manager for Weight Watchers throughout New York City from 1979 to 1997. Ms. Nielson thrived in the environment; she saw each role she took on as a career highlight and each person she guided in their Weight Watchers journey as an accomplishment. Prior to her time at Weight Watchers, Ms. Nielson worked as a clerk in the stock and bond dividend department at First National County Bank from 1966 to 1969. From 1963 to 1964, she was a school lunch manager at Brooklyn Public School #61. Ms. Nielson’s greatest influence and motivation throughout her career was her mother, and her father whom she called “the quiet one.” Her mother always respected her, and she always listened. Her mother instilled in her their connection to church, and the Bible is now Ms. Nielson’s primary writing inspiration. A poet since her time at Weight Watchers, Ms. Nielson is a contributor of poetry to various anthologies and is the author of “Blessings” and “Poems, Prayers and Inspiration.” She was named to the International Poetry Hall of Fame in 1996 and has been the recipient of numerous Editors’ Choice Awards between 1995 and 2003. She is a member of the International Society of Poets. Additionally, Ms. Nielson has been a volunteer for Busy Bees in Kingston, New York, since 2003, where she knits and crochets items for the needy. She also volunteered for Warm Up America in Kingston from 1999 to 2002. In her spare time, Ms. Nielson enjoys taekwondo, tai chi, music, needle crafts and cooking.
