WilliamMilton “Milt” Timmons received a BS in broadcasting from the University of Houston in 1958 and an MA from the University of California Los Angeles in 1961. He also obtained a PhD from the University of Southern California in 1975. Prior to obtaining his degrees, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1954 to 1956. Beginning his career as a young theatre actor who traveled with the Houston Junior Theatre, Dr. Timmons retired in 1992 after 22 years as chairman of the cinema department at Los Angeles Valley College. From 1963 to 1967, he was a speech and drama professor at Sam Houston State University, as well as an operations assistant at CBS-TV in Hollywood and a teaching fellow at the University of California Los Angeles. Prior, he served as a production assistant at KUHT-TV in Houston, where he was the first disc jockey and announcer when the station began airing educational programming. Likewise, he was a staff announcer at KMCO and producer at KPFK. As a filmmaker, Dr. Timmons produced over 200 humanistic public affairs television programs and informative films between 1963 and 2003, and produced a weekly half-hour radio program at Sam Houston State titled “Campus Comments.” Alongside his achievements, he joined other professors for the first commercial tour into mainland China, making a documentary film of the trip in 1979, and was featured in American Cinematography Magazine for starting the first professional film school at a community college in 1973. The author of seven books, notable works to his credit include “Orientation to Cinema,” “2084: A Tale of Post America” and “The Scroll Seekers: Who Created the New Testament?” For his unmatched efforts in the broadcasting industry, Dr. Timmons was the recipient of the Golden Pen Award and Award for Video Production. He also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Center for Inquiry West and Los Angeles Valley College. Dr. Timmons is currently a member of Mensa International, the USC School of Cinematic Arts Alumni Association, the Ethical Humanist Association of Los Angeles, Alpha Epsilon Rho and Delta Kappa Alpha.
