147 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine R obert AllenMetz’ fascination with rocks andminerals began while riding his bicycle on the trails of the Trailside Natural Museums in Ohio. Under the tutelage of Grace Curry, those at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History took notice of the young Mr. Metz’s interests and offered him a volunteer opportunity working with mineral samples. He went on to obtain a professional degree in geological engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1955, and also studied graduate coursework in management and geological engineering. Now a registered professional geologist by the State of Arizona, Mr. Metz has served as a mining geological consultant since 1992 and chairman, president, senior vice president of exploration and director of Professional Minerals Development LLC. Similarly, he was senior vice president of exploration, chairman and director of United Mines, Inc., from 2007 to 2014. Mr. Metz commenced his career in 1955 as assistant geologist at Kennecott Copper Corporation’s Chino Mines Division, and by 1959, was the youngest division geologist for Ray Mines Division. He then joined Duval Sierrita Corporation, where between 1968 and 1985, he served as chiefmine geologist, senior geologist, district geologist and manager of the evaluation section. Additionally, he spent 1985 to 1991 as senior geologist at evaluations and project manager of major projects at Battle Mountain Exploration Company, and one year as senior geologist for Phelps Dodge Mining Company. Notably, Mr. Metz was the recipient of the Legion of Honor from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration. He is the author of numerous written works in mining and engineering handbooks and magazines. He credits Mr. Wallen, Lois Langeade, Will Boltosser, Fred H. Howell and Grace Curry Maddux for helping him build his career. Mr. Metz is a member of the New Mexico Geological Society, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, National Rifle Association, Tucson Rod and Gun Club, Arizona Pilots Association, Elks, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Kappa Kappa Psi and Colorado School of Mines Alumni Association.
