237 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W ith a love for inpatient, outpatient and geriatric work, Dr. Sridhar Yaratha is renowned for his ability to care for a variety of patients, including those with depression to chronic schizophrenia. Dr. Yaratha received a BA in psychology from Austin College in 1991 and obtained an MD from Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine in St. Lucia in 1995. He specializes in working with patients dealing with a history of substance abuse, and uses his experience, strength and hope to help others struggling to recover. Since 2008, Dr. Yaratha has been an attending psychiatrist of outpatient adult psychiatry at Gateway Homes, and since 2015, has worked out of a private practice for part-time outpatient adult psychiatry in Richmond, Virginia. For two years, he worked at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center as acting chief of mental health services, chief of mental health service administrative duties, medical director of inpatient psychiatry and attending psychiatrist. He also was an associate professor of psychiatry at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Yaratha completed a residency in internal medicine and psychiatry at the Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia by 2001. He was a staff psychiatrist at Thomas Memorial Hospital and Psycare, Inc., until 2001 and Outpatient Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry at Vera French Community Mental Health Center until 2003. He then focused on contract psychiatric work for QTC Medical Management before serving as a psychiatrist for geriatrics at the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute. Additionally, from 2006 to 2016, he was a forensic psychiatrist at Central State Hospital. Notably, Dr. Yaratha has won three teaching awards from VCU’s Department of Psychiatry, and in 2001, won the Esther McMahon Award for Psychiatry Resident of the Year. He is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, American Psychiatric Association and American Medical Association.
