Bonds was a teenager, his eighth grade teacher at 80 years of age predicted he would be a doctor who would return and treat her in her old age. An impressive guess, Mr. Bonds went on to obtain a BS in clinical laboratory science and medical technology from the University of Mississippi in 1981. Since 1994, Mr. Bonds has been a loyal employee to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a management and program analyst, and since 2017, as an operations training specialist. Additionally, he has served as a clinician/practitioner consultant to the American Health Information Management Association since 2011. Notably, Mr. Bonds was involved in an eight-month research study on stem cells in high dose chemotherapy. A specialist in chemistry by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry, Mr. Bonds has also served on the Board of American Pathologists as a College of American Pathology Clinical Reviewer. Mr. Bonds is a charter member of the VHA Informatics Council and is part of the National Clinical Template Work Group Committee. He attributes his success to hard work, determination and passion for serving veterans. Millennium Magazine Featured Listee HAROLD D. James Robert Birchak received a BS in physics in 1961 from Carnegie Mellon University, and an MA in 1964 and PhD in 1966, both in physics from Rice University. He also obtained an MBA fromWayne State University in 1971. The co-inventor of 50 patents, he presented at conferences on oil-field logging and on testing computer memories, power plants, bridges and auto brakes. The president of Birchak Consultant since 1986, Dr. Birchak most recently was principal research physicist at Halliburton Energy Services from 1991 to 2004. He served as technical staff member at Reliability, Inc., from 1986 to 1991 and supervisor at NL Industries from 1979 to 1985. In the earlier years of his career, he held research- based positions with Babcock and Wilcox, the Southwest Research Institute and GM Research. Dr. Birchak is a member of the IEEE, American Physical Society, American Society for Nondestructive Testing and Sigma Xi. He recalls an article published by the IEEE as a career highlight. The article described making a soil-moisture meter. A German scientist cited equations as the “Birchak Mixing Rule” to calculate water content in snow packs.
