99 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A s a young girl, Dr. Bobbi S. Low cared for many pets such as dogs, rats, snakes and reptiles. She had never known she could develop a career surrounding the subjects she loved like animals and science until meeting friends of her parents, one of whom was chair of the biology department at the University of Louisville. Dr. Low received a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from the University of Louisville in 1960, as well as a Master of Arts in 1962 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1965, both from the University of Texas. She also pursued postgraduate studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Dr. Low commenced her career in 1967 as a research scientist at the Commonwealth Science & Industry Research Organization in Alice Springs, Australia. Serving in this role for five years, in 1972 she became an assistant professor at the University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability. By 1975, she was promoted to associate professor, and from 1992 to 2018, she notably served as a full professor. She was honored with the title professor emerita in 2018. For her unmatched service to her field, Dr. Low was the recipient of the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Human Behavior and Evolution Society. She was granted the University of Michigan Outstanding Doctoral Mentorship Award in 2007 and the State of Michigan Outstanding Teaching Award in 1989. Additionally, she was awarded by the Norwegian Science Foundation in 2000. Of her numerous career accomplishments, Dr. Low is most proud to have 7,556 citations. She is the author of 115 papers in refereed journals and 20 short articles, abstracts and commentary books. Dr. Low is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society of Naturalists, American Institute of Biological Sciences, Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi. She has also been on the Human Relations Area Files Board and Executive Committee in New Haven, Connecticut, since 2013. Dr. Low was a Michigan state fellow for Managing the Environment from 1990 to 1994 and a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellow from 2002 to 2018. BOBBI S.
