140 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine U pon entering college, Brad James Bittenbender wanted to choose a profession that was meaningful and rewarding, and he found that engineering gave him the ability to make a difference in society. He received a BS from Western Michigan University in 1972 and also holds a certificate in hazardous material management and environmental auditing from the University of California Irvine and California State University, Long Beach, respectively. Since 2000, Mr. Bittenbender has been a senior safety specialist with General Electric Aviation’s Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. Previously, he worked at the Cytec Fiberite-California Division as manager of the safety, health and environmental department and was the director of the environmental safety and health department for the Culver City Composites Corporation. Mr. Bittenbender also managed Structural Polymer Systems and Ferro Corporation Los Angeles’ environmental, safety and industrial hygiene departments. At the inception of his career, Mr. Bittenbender was a supervisor of manufacturing, and later environmental administrator, of the Ferro Corporation’s productol chemical division in Santa Fe Springs from 1977 to 1980. From1980 to 1987, hewas promoted to senior environmental engineer at the corporation’s Los Angeles location. Since then, Mr. Bittenbender has been named 2018 Region-1 Special Government Employee of the Year by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Outside of his engineering work, Mr. Bittenbender is a founding sponsor of the Boston Athenaeum’s Challenger Center. He was also a proud delegation member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, where he has met counterparts of China, Brazil and India to establish an international qualification standards for safety professionals. Mr. Bittenbender is a member of People to People International, Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals, National Fire Protection Association, Society of Fire Protection Engineers and Engineers Without Borders USA, among others. He also sits on the board for the Massachusetts Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
