Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine internship at the University of Chicago and then spent 1971 to 1973 as a captain for the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He returned to the University of Chicago and completed his residency by 1976 and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine in 1979. Commencing his career in 1976, Dr. Devoe was an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Chicago until 1983. With a big move to the south, Dr. Devoe dedicated the next 37 years of his career to the Medical College of Georgia. Starting off as an associate professor and moving up to professor, from 1984 to 2005, he was the director of maternal-fetal medicine. Additionally, from 1996 to 2006, he was the chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. Finally, Dr. Devoe was granted the title of professor emeritus in 2010. In 2012, Dr. Devoe was the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award for Institutional Services from Medical College of Georgia’s School of Medicine. Alongside numerous other accolades, the highlight of Dr. Devoe’s career has been his ability to secure good outcomes for patients during a unique time in their lives. Dr. Devoe credits his mentors Louis D. Smith, Frederick P. Zuspan, Luis Cibilis, Paul McDonough and Uwe Freese for their guidance and support. Dr. Devoe has been a member of the Chicago Gynecological Society, Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, South Atlantic Association of Obstetri- cians and Gynecologists, Southern Perinatal Asso- ciation, Georgia OB-GYN Society, Augusta OB-GYN Society, and International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy. He also maintains membership with the International Academy of Medical Specialists, American Institute of Ultra- sound in Medicine, Richmond County Medical Society, Georgia Perinatal Association andMedical AssociationofGeorgia.HeisafellowoftheAmerican College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and president of the Augusta Opera Association. D r. Lawrence D. Devoe’s grandfather, Louis Daniel Smith, was a physician, and influenced by familial ties, Dr. Devoe also entered the medical field.
