262 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine O riginally considering a career in economics, Andrew J. “Buddy” Donohue took the LSAT examination and did extremely well. From this achievement, Mr. Donohue went on to receive a JD from New York University School of Law in 1975. He previously obtained a BA, cum laude with high honors, in economics from Hofstra University in 1972. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York. At the inception of his career in 1975, Mr. Donohue worked at First Investors Corporation and its affiliated companies in New York. He became their General Counsel and served inmyriad positions, including as a Director and President of the First Investors Family of Funds. From 1991 to 2001, he was Executive Vice President, General Counsel and member of the Executive Committee of Oppenheimer Funds before spending 2003 to 2006 as First Vice President and Global General Counsel of Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. While at Merrill Lynch, he also served as Chairman of their Cayman-based funds and as a Director of their Luxembourg-based UCITs. Mr. Donohue calls the highlight of his career to be his time with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he was the Director of the Division of Investment Management from 2006 to 2010 and Chief of Staff from 2015 to 2017. He was also partner at Morgan Lewis & Bockius in 2011 and Managing Director and Investment Company General Counsel of Goldman Sachs from 2012 to 2015. From 2017 to 2019, he served as counsel for Shearman & Sterling, and returned to Oppenheimer Funds as an Independent Director. Despite slowing down in practicing law, Mr. Donohue has been an Independent Fund Director for the BNY Mellon Funds since 2019, is an Adjunct Professor at Brooklyn Law School and is on the Board of the Mutual Fund Directors Forum. Mr. Donohue is also a frequent speaker at industry forums. Mr. Donohue finds ease in leadership and has been recognized for his skills. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Fund Directions, and was named a Visionary of the Modern Era of the Mutual Fund Industry in 2011.
