108 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine O riginally wanting to study cultural anthropology, Dr. Peggy L. Mott later decided to go into the field of sociology, as she desired to learn the motives behind human behavior and decision-making. Dr. Mott received a Bachelor of Arts in 1980, a Master of Arts in 1982 and a PhD in comparative religions in 1995, all from Southwest Texas State University. Additionally, she has been a certified instructor of ceramic arts by the National Ceramic Art Institute since 1986. Dr. Mott commenced her career as an instructor of ceramics at the Lackland Air Force Base Arts and Crafts Center in 1969. In 1972, she served as director of sales at the Arts and Crafts Center until 1977. Entering teaching at the collegiate level, Dr. Mott spent 1980 to 1982 as an assistant instructor at Southwest Texas State University. From 1991 until her retirement in 2010, she was an instructor of sociology at Palo Alto College. For her unmatched success and dedication to her profession, Dr. Mott was greatly recognized for her efforts at the Lackland Air Force Base. She was thrice named Volunteer of the Month, as well as Volunteer of the Quarter four times, Volunteer of the Year once, and Volunteer of the Year by Air Command Training in 1980. In addition to her career as a sociologist, Dr. Mott is a gifted poet. She is the author of a book of poetry, “Screaming Silences,” and has contributed to several worldwide poetry journals. The co-author of “Activities, Field Studies for Students,” a book used in social science college classes, Dr. Mott is also amember of the International Society of Poets, where she has been a vice president, president and poet laureate. She is also affiliated with Clipper Ship Poets, San Antonio Poets Association, San Antonio Ethnic Arts Society, San Antonio Poetry Festival and Alamo Area Poets. Looking back on her eclectic career, Dr. Mott thanks her student advisor, Dr. Ramona L. Ford, for her motivation and inspiration at a time in her life when it was much needed. PEGGY L.
