30 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine K atherine Bartol came from a family of musicians who filled her childhood with lively performances of popular songs and polkas. Music became a central part of her life as she took piano lessons, performed and eventually pursued a musical career. She received her BS in music education, won a piano competition, started a master’s in music performance, and finished with a master’s in music education with a Kodaly and Orff certification fromWest Chester University. She later studied the physiology of the voice and conducting at the University of Minnesota, Westminster Choir College and the University of the Arts. Ms. Bartol is a professional piano and voice coach, singer, keyboard player and author. From 1997 to 2016, she was the director of vocal music and department chair at Selinsgrove Area High School. She was the Kodaly specialist for Selinsgrove Area Middle School from 1983 to 1997 and Selinsgrove Elementary Schools from 1981 to 1983. She also directed a show choir at Susquehanna University. Ms. Bartol’s success led to exemplary performances for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and the Pennsylvania Middle School Association. Her career highlights include five Carnegie Hall concerts in New York City with British composer John Rutter. Her choirs also sang for the World War II Memorial Dedication ceremonies in Washington, D.C., and the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown with President George W. Bush and Sandra Day O’Connor present. Her sixth graders premiered the composition “Kinderklatter” by Manhattan School of Music’s instructor Linda Babits. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Ms. Bartol was lead singer, songwriter and keyboard player for her bands Fallout and Rumor Has It. She performed with Davy Jones of The Monkees and sang “The Star Spangled Banner” for the Pennsylvania State Education Association’s House of Delegates. Her memberships include the National Education Association, American Choral Director’s Association, and National Association for Music Education.
