Clarkson is renowned as an air transportation executive with more than 40 years of excellence in aircraft manufacturing and development management. Mr. Clarkson received a BA from DePauw University in 1960 and a JD from the University of Florida in 1962. Furthermore, he utilized his legal skills to serve as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1971. In 1967, Mr. Clarkson began his career in law with Pratt & Whitney in West Palm Beach as their corporate counsel. At the aforementioned firm, he subsequently found success as program deputy director from 1972 to 1974, program manager from 1974 to 1978 and vice president of marketing from 1978 to 1980. Notably, his military background made him invaluable to Pratt & Whitney, who were accepting a number of major contracts from the Air Force at the time, and he was later appointed as the vice president of contracts in 1980, and then president of the commercial products division in 1982. In 1988, Mr. Clarkson accepted the position of the senior vice president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group in Seattle. He worked for Boeing as the corporate vice president of planning and international development from 1992 to 1993, the senior vice president from 1994 to 1997 and the president of Boeing Enterprises from 1997 to 1999. Since 2000, Mr. Clarkson has excelled as the senior vice president of Project 2000 in Seattle. From 1991 to 2002, Mr. Clarkson was active chairman of the Seattle Opera, for which he remains a trustee. He recalls his time with the opera to be a career highlight, and is proud of the work he initiated to lead the opera toward financial solvency. He had also served on the board of several other cultural and educational institutions, including DePauw University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and as chairman of the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Likewise, Mr. Clarkson is a member of the American Institute of ContemporaryGerman Studies, MetropolitanClub, Order of St. John Knight and National Association of Manufacturers.
