36 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT I n her youth, Patricia Jow Kagemoto’s father owned a 35mm camera and would photograph her and her sister as they grew up and faced life’s milestones. Her family and peers gave her the drive to pursue art. Her parents bought her paint supplies and an easel, and a friend of her sister asked Ms. Kagemoto to paint a portrait of her. During her high school years, Ms. Kagemoto received much encouragement from teachers, which furthered her desire to be an artist and pushed her to keep experimenting in different art media, such as painting, printmaking and film- making in order to find her niche. For her creative and exemplary artwork, Ms. Kagemoto received twomedals from the NewYork City Department of Education. Her love of painting continues as she feels joy and excitement in working with expres- sive brushstrokes of colors, shapes and lines. Following in the footsteps of her father, Ms. Kagemoto enrolled in a college photography course, bought her own camera and diligently learned about this art form and process. She compares developing photographs in the darkroom to a magical experience. After graduating college magna cum laude with a BFA in printmaking, Ms. Kagemoto became widely known for her rich, bold and textural cut-plate shaped color viscosity prints. She was the recipient of an America the Beautiful Grant in 1976. She was also the recipient of an Ulster County Decentralization Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts in 1989. After teaching printmaking classes, she arranged exhibitions of the participants’ works in Mid-Hudson Valley public spaces, and produced a series of highly regarded shaped color intaglio etchings. Her work is included in The Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop Collection at The Library of Congress. Ms. Kagemoto has expanded her passion into digital photography, and her works include waterscapes and nature. She is married to artist Haro Kagemoto. In her free time, she enjoys going to botanical gardens and spending time with her family. She is a member of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
