38 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nspired by the emotion, beauty and acceptance of the performing arts, Richard N. Philp received a BA in English and theater, cum laude, from the University of North Carolina and MFA in theater, literature and playwriting from Yale University, which he notes was a significant turning point in his career that led to considerable success. At this impressionable age, the discovery of the performing arts led to his acceptance of his sexuality, which altered the course of his life. Recognized as an editor-in-chief emeritus of Dance Magazine since 2002, he has served as a lecturer to many academic institutions, including Yale, Princeton, Fordham, The Juilliard School and the Universities of Utah and Wyoming. Mr. Philp has served as a historian for the Town of Catskill since 2008 and Catskill Village and Beattie-Powers Place since 2006. He has also been a docent to Thomas Cole’s Cedar Grove since 2001. He sits on the board of directors for the Joffrey Ballet School and Beattie-Powers Place, of which he is also treasurer. Since 2008, he has served as board chairman of the Pleshakov Piano Foundation. Prior to his current roles, he kick-started his career at the publication “After Dark,” and he most recently authored “Peter Pan: A Ballet Scenario” in 2005, among numerous other works. Mr. Philp is a member of the Mountain Beekeepers Association and Devon Beekeepers’ Association of England. He formerly sat on the advisory boards for Thomas Cole’s Cedar Grove, the Jackson Ballet Competition and The Juilliard School; the board of directors for the Israel Dance Collection Library; and the selection committee for the Annual Broadway Astaire Awards. Additionally, he was a founder and member of the Catskill Writer’s Group from 1978 to 1989. Mr. Philp received the 2006 Ellen Rettus Planning Achievement Award for Community Service in 2006. He received the 1994 Nijinsky Award, a 1986 TV Documentary Writing Award from the American Film Festival, a Bronze Medal from the 28 th International Film and TV Festival, and a 1985 Silver Medal from the Chicago International Film Festival. Mr. Philp also holds a special citation from the Society of Illustrators. RICHARD N.
