41 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT D elmar L. Roberts received a BS in textile management from North Carolina State University in 1956. While serving with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, he was granted educational benefits and received an MA in journalism from the University of South Carolina in 1974. Additionally, he received a diploma from Kings Business College in 1952. He also studied one summer at the University of Paris in France. Despite much discouragement from his family, Mr. Roberts had always wanted to be a journalist, and he commenced his career in 1968 as editor- in-chief and later editorial vice president at Sandlapper-The Magazine of South Carolina. In 1970, he also served as associate editor of the South Carolina History Illustrated Magazine. After six years with the Sandlapper, Mr. Roberts moved to the Legal EconomicsMagazine and Law Practice Management Magazine of the American Bar Association, where he excelled as managing editor and art director until 2000. Today, he is honored as managing editor emeritus. In 1995, Mr. Roberts was recognized as an honorary fellow of the College of Law Practice Management in Golden, Colorado, which he calls one of the greatest highlights of his career. An organization strictly for lawyers, he was an exception to the rule and still deeply cherishes the honor. Additionally, in 1979, he was the editor of The Best of Legal Economics, and has also been a freelance editor and/or designer for more than 35 books. Mr. Roberts thanks his mentors Robert P. Wilkins and Dr. Albert Scroggins for seeing his potential in the earlier years of his education and career. Prior to journalism, Mr. Roberts was a product development engineer with the U.S. Rubber Company, also known as Uniroyal, in 1959. He later spent 1965 to 1967 as a process improvement engineer with Allied Chemical Company. Today, Mr. Roberts is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, University of South Carolina Horseshoe Society, University of South Carolina Guardian Society, Capital City Club of Columbia, Columbia Drama Club and English-Speaking Union, for which he served many years as president.
