42 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT G ilbert Saenz attended Minot State University in North Dakota in 1963 and graduated from Wayne State University with a BA in English literature in 1968. He then went on to kick off his career as a U.S. diplomatic courier at the State Department in Washington, D.C., in 1969. Additionally, Mr. Saenz served with the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1963 and completed two years of postgraduate studies at Wayne State University. For 30 years beginning in 1974, Mr. Saenz was a computer programmer and analyst at the Detroit IRS Computing Center in Melvindale, Michigan. He officially retired in 2004. While working for the Detroit IRS Computing Center, Mr. Saenz was recognized for his work on multiple occasions. In 1988, he received an Achievement Award for Special Acts or Service. Later on in 2002, he was the recipient of the Directors Award, and he received the Albert Gallatin Award in 2004. Mr. Saenz is also a prolific and passionate poet. He has written “Where Love Is,” “Colorful Impressions,” “Moments in Time,” “Dreaming of Love,” “Poems of Life,” “Spaces in Between” and “Edge of a Fantasy.” He also co- authored “Lavender & Lace” with Jacqueline Sanchez and was the editor of “The Other Side of Darkness: DBSA Anthology.” In 1999, Mr. Saenz was the recipient of the World Poets Award from J. Mark Press. In his free time, he enjoys reading poetry and other works of fiction and nonifction, singing at Saint Martha’s Catholic Church in Meridian, Michigan, spending time with friends and listening to symphony music. Mr. Saenz is a member of the U.S. Diplomatic Courier Association, Downriver Poets and Playwrights, the Light of Christ Prayer Group, the Poetry Society of Michigan, the Academy of American Poets, the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, the St. Mary Magdalen Church Parish, Poets & Writers, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and the Association of the Miraculous Medal.
