Basheer Ahmed first had hopes to be a medical doctor and then a physicist, but later found education gave him the opportunity to do what he truly desired. He received a BA in 1955 and an MA in 1957, both from Osmania University in his native India. Upon his arrival to the United States in 1961, Dr. Ahmed soon earned an MS in 1963 and a PhD in 1966, both from Texas A&M University. Serving as the president of Pearce Consulting Services LLC since 2000, Dr. Ahmed was also appointed president of Princeton Economic Research, Inc., from 1980 to 1999. At the same time, he taught at Pace University’s Lubin School of Business as a professor of management sciences and was the director of the doctoral program from 1982 to 1992. Dr. Ahmed attained professor emeritus status at Pace in 1993. Dr. Ahmed commenced his teaching career in 1966 as an assistant professor at Tennessee Technological University. Two years later, he began serving as an assistant professor to Ohio University until 1970. From 1970 to 1980, he was also a full professor at Western Kentucky University and was a visiting fellow at Princeton University from 1977 to 1978. Notably, Dr. Ahmed received a Millennium Medal in 2000 and a Centennial Medal in 1983 from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Additionally, he received an Achievement Award from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1977. He authored “Technology, International Stability and Growth” in 1984, “Nuclear Fuel and Energy Policy” in 1979 and “Quantitative Methods for Business” in 1974. Dr. Ahmed is a fellowof theAmericanAssociation for the Advancement of Science andwas president of the Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers from 1980 to 1982. A member of the Bowling Green Rotary Club, Dr. Ahmed previously sat on the board for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
