Giardino’s military background provided him with the knowledge and experience to become an exceptional leader. He served in the United States Army from 1995 to 2015. He also received a Bachelor of Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a Master of Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Baker College, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University. In the present day, Dr. Giardino serves as vice president of global human resources for BMC Software. His current role, which he has held since early 2020, includes managing human resources operations that support more than 6,000 FTEs, office space location management across 38 countries and global business continuity. In five years’ time, Dr. Giardino hopes to become a chief human resources officer for a larger organization, where he can affect large- scale change. He also believes he would excel in taking on a chief executive officer, chief operations officer or chief human resources officer position. Dr. Giardino attributes his career success to perseverance, as well as the motivation he receives from his daughters. The advice he would offer to young professionals is to seek out a mentor, and together, develop a plan that helps them meet their desired career goals. He also believes networking is a necessary activity in the field of human resources. To remain abreast of field developments, Dr. Giardino is a member of the Forbes Human Resource Council, the National DBA Society, the Cheeky Scientist Association, the Society for Human Resources Management, the International Public Management Association for Human Resources, the Austin chapter of the Academy of Culture Ambassadors and the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute.
