61 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine C ommencing his career with the U.S. military, Gilbert Stanley Leonard served with the U.S. Navy in the mid-1960s as a lieutenant and a gunnery officer with the Destroyer USS Charles R. Ware (DD-865). He chose to end his career in the Navy in order to pursue other endeavors that he wanted to explore. In 1964, he received a BS in industrial management from Purdue University, and in 1970, obtained an MS in business from the University of Kansas. Mr. Leonard started off as a summer trainee for Tennessee Eastman Co. in 1963, and returned in 1966 as a production planner. At the start of the 1970s, Mr. Leonard began working for Exxon Co. in Houston. Between 1970 and 1989, Mr. Leonard was a marketing analyst, distribution specialist, staff systems analyst, group supervisor of applications support, strategic systems planner and supervisor of applications development. Slightly branching off from the Exxon Co., Mr. Leonard was a systems supervisor for the Exxon Card Center from 1990 to 1995, a supervisor of the network and telecommunication division for the Exxon Computing Service Corp. from 1994 to 1996, and an infrastructure services manager at Exxon Mobil Co. in 1998. Entering the 2000s, the third leg of Mr. Leonard’s career was spent with Texas A&M University. In 2000, he was a lecturer for graduate coursework in logistics and an instructor of operations management at the Mays School of Business. In 2001, Mr. Leonard was a lecturer with executive residence at the university. From 2003 to 2013, he was an adjunct professor of business at Lone Star College-CyFair. Mr. Leonard currently is an academic and work-force advisor at Lone Star College-CyFair. Notably, he was the recipient of the 1991 Exxon Quality Tiger Award and also received recognition for Excellence in Naval ROTC from the Chicago Tribune in 1963. Mr. Leonard is a member of the Quarterdeck Society, Beta Gamma Sigma and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Choir. In his free time, he enjoys golf, running, teaching and being a private pilot and is happily married to his beloved wife of 37 years, Linda, to whom he owes much of his success.
