89 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ANN MARIE GENADER EDUCATOR, JOURNALIST, CHURCH MUSICIAN West Milford, NJ always wanted to be a writer. She had written a school column in the local newspaper when she was in the third grade, which led her to write for various magazines and newspaper in her later years. Today, Ms. Genader writes a weekly column for Suburban Trends newspaper of USA Today and is a news reporter for the West Milford Messenger Newspaper. She was an organist for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Ringwood, backed by years as an organist for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and Episcopal Church of Incarnation, all in West Milford. She continues to fill in for other organists when needed. Ms. Genader received a BS from New Jersey City University in 1954 and an MA from William Paterson University in 1969. She was a public school teacher for the Pompton Lakes Board of Education from 1954 to 1959 and Oakland Board of Education from 1959 to 1963 before taking on a 34-year teaching role with the West Milord Board of Education until 1997. Named Passaic County Teacher of the Year and West Milford Top Teacher of the Year in 1991, Ms. Genader has also been honored by the West Milford Township. In 2014, she was honored by the Passaic County Board of Freeholders for contributions she made in time, effort and energy in teaching, writing for newspapers and music leadership, and in 2018, she was inducted into the Butler High School Hall of Honor. She received the David Paul Hegg II 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Senior Ministries Episcopal Diocese of Newark. Ms. Genader finds that the most rewarding aspect of her career is seeing her former students grow to become successful adults. She remembers working with special needs students, many of whom have now found positions within the community. A self-taught organist by the age of 12, Ann Marie Genader displayed her talents at churches by the direction of her mother, who was also an organist and teacher.
