93 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine G rowing up within the countryside of Wisconsin, Dr. Reynotta Jahnke Hoberecht first realized her interest in anthropology at the age of 4. On one rainy day, Dr. Hoberecht recalls watching the rain soak into the soil and noticing strange objects in the earth. These objects were flint; specifically, the flint that Native Americans of the area used as materials to make tools such as arrows. From that moment on, her curiosity intensified, leaving a mark on her future character forever. Dr. Hoberecht received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin in 1961, and later obtained Master of Arts in 1978 and an EdD in 1998, both from the University of San Francisco. She was a teacher at the Travis Unified Schools in California for 28 years from 1971 to 1999, and then became an administrative assistant. Serving in that role from 1995 to 2003, she was the recipient of the Ecosystems Award Project from the Travis School Board in 1993. Since her retirement in 2003, Dr. Hoberecht has used her time to take up her hobbies of playing with dogs and digging for anthropological finds. In 1992, Dr. Hoberecht was a participant of the Unidad de Paleontologia Expedition in Las Hoyas, Spain. She was also a participant in the “First Americans” expedition in Montana, which she calls a highlight of her career. During the expedition, she discovered 1,000-year-old artifacts, including old slingshots used by the natives of the land. She also spent time living in a tent and experienced the coldest conditions she has ever endured. Dr. Hoberecht is a member of the California Teachers Association, in which she served as treasurer from 1994 to 1999 and as secretary from 1967 to 1968. She credits her husband, Hal G. Hoberecht, as her greatest mentor in her life. He was the person who insisted that she study physical anthropology for her doctorate degree. As a testament to her success, she has been highlighted in several Who’s Who publications beginning in 1997, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
