214 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W hen Carlene M. Karavite was receiving therapy, she enjoyed the nature of the appointments, and when she realized how much therapy had helped her, she wanted to be able to do the same for others. She later received a BA, cum laude, from Wayne State University in 1990 and an MS in clinical psychology from Eastern Michigan University in 1992. Ms. Karavite is now a limited licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan. Most recently, from 1976 to 2006, Ms. Karavite was a property manager in Royal Oak, Michigan. Between 1989 and 1997, she also practiced as a psychologist at Advanced Counseling Services, Evergreen Counseling Centers and the Midwestern Education Resource Center. She also spent four years in the 1980s as a real estate agent at Berridge & Morrison and Coldwell Banker. Ms. Karavite finds the most rewarding aspect of her profession is seeing her clients develop from despair to starting to come alive again. The advice that she can offer the next psychologist, coach, real estate property manager or anyone entering the workforce would be to use logic. It is also important to love what you do and find something that you enjoy. At the inception of her career in 1957, Ms. Karavite was a secretary for Reichhold Chemical, Inc. In 1978, she was a bookkeeper for Bee Kalt Travel, an optometric assistant at Belmont Vision Center from 1979 to 1980, and secretary of data staff at Dale L. Prentice Company from 1980 to 1985. She was also a salesperson at AT&T in 1989. Ms. Karavite is a member of the American Coaching Association and was named Outstanding Young Woman of the Year by the Junior Women’s Club of America in 1966. Outside of her work, Ms. Karavite enjoys golfing, cross country skiing, fine art, drawing and painting. She began taking roller skating lessons at the age of 69 and has participated in National Roller Skating Competitions for three years. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue enjoying her well-deserved retirement and enjoy roller skating. CARLENE M.
