217 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since 2016, Dr. Luna has been an obstetrician- gynecologist at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas, and a Da Vinci National Robotic Gynecologic Surgical Proctor at Intuitive Surgical. Additionally, since 2015, Dr. Luna has been an attending physician at the Doctors Hospital within the Renaissance Health System. Prior to his current roles, Dr. Luna served as an obstetrician-gynecologist at a private practice from 2013 to 2015. Dr. Luna was named One of the Top Doctors in Texas and Super Doctors’ Rising Stars by Texas Monthly Magazine in 2019, and was ranked number two in Texas and number six in the United States for single-site gynecological robotic surgery in 2017. The Women’s Hospital of Texas in Houston named him Physician of the Quarter in 2015, and H Texas Magazine included him as a listee of Houston Top Doctors for 2014 and 2015. Dr. Luca was previously the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in 2013. A fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, in five years’ time, Dr. Luna would like to move to a private practice as well as continue to teach surgery, take on new cases and explore advancing technologies. Dr. Luna is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Texas Gynecologists, Society for Laparoscopic Surgeons, Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopic Surgeons, Hidalgo- Starr County Medical Society, Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery and the Texas Medical Association. In his free time, he enjoys golf, attending sporting events and spending time with his two sons. D r. Rene I. Luna received a BS in biology from the University of Texas-Pan American (now the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) in 2002 and an MD from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico in 2007.
