218 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS S ince 2009, Dr. Ronald Manderscheid has notably served as the executive director of the National Association of County Behavioral Health & Developmental Disability Directors in Washington, D.C. He also serves as an adjunct professor in Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, and is further involved with the Danya Institute, Council on Quality and Leadership, West Montgomery Citizens Association and National Research Institute. Renowned for his work in bringing peers, those who have had a behavioral health condition, into advisory groups in the federal government, Dr. Manderscheid received a BA from Loras College in 1965, MA from Marquette University in 1967 and PhD from the University of Maryland in 1975. He served with the U.S. Army and is decorated with an Army Commendation Medal. Dr. Manderscheid commenced his career in 1970 as a research assistant at the University of Maryland and research associate at the National Institute of Mental Health, officially joining the institute in 1975, and later as evaluation research section chief and statistics research branch chief until 1992. For one year, he was acting director of the Center for Mental Health Service’s Division of State and Community System Development, becoming chief of survey and analysis from 1992 to 2006. He was senior principal and director of the mental health and substance abuse program for Global Health Sector/SRA from 2006 to 2011. The recipient of numerous accolades, most recently in 2019, Dr. Manderscheid won the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Public Policy Leadership Award from the New York Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services. Over the years, he has also received service- related awards from the American College of Mental Health Administrators, National Association of State Mental Health ProgramDirectors, and National Council of Community Behavioral Healthcare, among others. Dr. Manderscheid is amember of the Cosmos Club and FarmingtonCountry Club. An author and editor to numerous works, he attributes his success to his ability to undertake a task and passion to increase social justice.
