324 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine G rowing up in New Mexico and Oklahoma, Nancy Madrid realized that there were many students who were not receiving the help that they needed academically and personally. Coming from the Native American Indian Tribe Choctaw Nation in Southeastern Oklahoma, Ms. Madrid made it her mission to work in schools and help children following her college graduation. Now a Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor, School Counselor and Diagnostician, Ms. Madrid first received her AS from Paris Junior College. She achieved a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s of Behavioral Studies in Counseling Psychology, both from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Since 2004, she has been a Mental Health Counselor and a Native American Women owner of Nancy Madrid’s Counseling Services. She was previously a mental health counselor at public, private and charter schools in Oklahoma and New Mexico. The highlight of Ms. Madrid’s career has been working with children in elementary, middle and high schools. She continues to advocate for and serve low income, rural children in New Mexico. Many teenagers came to her office to request mental health counseling. She is proud to have had many students turn down illegal drugs and alcohol while they were being counseled by her and see a boost in their grade point averages. For her unmatched work in rural and underserved communities, Ms. Madrid was the recipient of the Security Awareness Award from the Texas Employment Commission New Ideas Committee in 1988. In 1994, she was named Employee of the Month in the Tribal Services Department of the Cherokee Nation. In 2017, she was granted the Albuquerque Public Schools Key to Student Success Certificate. Ms. Madrid is a member of the American Counseling Association, NewMexico Counseling Association, and is a lifetime member of the American Association of Professional Hypnotherapists. Ms. Madrid has certifications as a Clinical Counselor Supervisor in Texas and New Mexico.
