334 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Foundation from 2011 to 2014 and previously spent 1998 to 2004 with HRL Laboratories. In that time, he served as the director and manager of the Information Sciences Laboratory, and senior research scientist and manager of the Computational Physics Department. From 1996 to 1998, he was with the Hughes Research Laboratories as a senior staff computer scientist. He calls his contributions to designing the shapes of aircrafts as a principal investigator with the Hughes Research Laboratory the highlight of his career. In the earlier years of his career, Dr. Stalzer was the principal engineer and manager of software engineering for Trace Instruments from 1981 to 1991 and a Merrill Lynch associate for one year. Looking ahead, Dr. Stalzer hopes to take on a board director position, but he still enjoys his current focus on pure research and teaching. Dr. Stalzer is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and member of Sigma Xi. W hen Dr. Mark Anthony Stalzer’s father bought a hobby computer during the beginning of the microcomputer revolution, the 14 year old Dr. Stalzer immediately began writing programs. Now a renowned inventor in the field holding five patents, Dr. Stalzer attributes his success to a hungry curiosity and desire to solve problems. Dr. Stalzer received a BS in physics and computer science fromCalifornia State University, Northridge in 1984. He went on to obtain an MS in computer science in 1988 and a PhD in computer science in 1993, both from the University of Southern California. Since 2014, Dr. Stalzer has been an associate faculty member of computing and mathematical sciences at the California Institute of Technology, and also spent 2004 to 2011 as executive director of the university’s Center for Advanced Computing Research.
