120 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine DR. ROBERT WILHITE DEAN, PROFESSOR College of Graduate Studies, Concordia University Chicago, IL D r. Robert Wilhite struggled with dyslexia throughout his years of childhood education, making reading and completing coursework difficult. Two teachers, Mr. Claridge and Mr. Hughes, taught him to be his best, which inspired him to become a teacher. Today, Dr. Wilhite is the dean of the College of Graduate Studies and a professor of leadership at Concordia University in Chicago. Dr. Wilhite received a BA in Humanities from Southern Illinois University in 1969, and went on to obtain an MEd in Reading and Learning Disabilities in 1978 and an EdD in curriculum and instruction in 1982, both from Loyola University Chicago. Additionally, from 1970 to 1972, he served in the judge advocate general office for the U.S. Army. Commencing his career as an English teacher at Edwardsville Junior High School, after one year, Dr. Wilhite went on to serve as a language arts teacher at Mannheim Junior High School from 1972 to 1978. For four years, he was a reading specialist with Wheaton Public Schools, and then two years as a reading and language arts supervisor for Waukegan Public Schools. From 1984 to 1995, Dr. Wilhite was principal of Greenwood School, Wayne Thomas School, Wood Oaks Junior High School and the Center for Science and Technology, where he later served as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. From 2000 to 2007, he was the superintendent of schools for Township High School District 215. Notably, Dr. Wilhite was twice named to Outstanding Young Men of America and named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the University of Chicago. He was also the recipient of the Campaign Excellence Award from United Way in 1983 and an Army Commendation Medal in 1972. Dr. Wilhite is a presenter at conferences nationwide and an author of numerous works. Dr. Wilhite is a member of the School Superintendents Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Council for Professors of Educational Administration, National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals, National Middle School Association, Illinois Principals Association, Midwest Principals’ Center, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and Phi Delta Kappa.
