126 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I n the mid-1950s, Dr. Robert L. Zimmerman feared he would be drafted without getting the chance to continue his education. To his astonishment, he achieved a BA in 1954, MA in 1965 and PhD in 1970, all from the University of Minnesota. Over the years, Dr. Zimmerman has proven himself to be a distinguished educator, researcher and writer, among many other skillsets. Commencing his career in 1968, Dr. Zimmerman was an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, until 1969. He returned to the University of Minnesota, where he served as a research associate of the psychiatry research unit until 1975. Likewise, he was an external review officer for the Food and Drug Administration from 1974 to 1977, as well as a senior scientist in the biometrics laboratory at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Zimmerman returned to his alma mater and served as an adjunct clinical assistant professor within the psychiatry department from 1976 to 1990. Toward the end of his career, Dr. Zimmerman was a private consultant on research design and data analysis and served as senior research manager of Maritz Market Research from 1984 to 2013. In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Zimmerman is a published author under the pseudonym R. Laurenz. He is the author of five books: “The Puzzle” from 2014, “Last Rites” from 2015, “Prodromal: Incident in Mbandaka” from 2015, “Kendra” from 2016, and “Now or Never” from 2017. He credits his mentor Bertrum Shiele for constant support and inspiration. His advice to up-and-coming professionals to be exceptionally proficient with technology, as it is the way of the future in nearly every profession. Dr. Zimmerman is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Civil Liberties Union, Twin Cities Public Television, Minnesota Public Radio, UNICEF and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
