Young Junior Memorial Library New York, NY CELESTINE TUTT BENNETT, BA, MLS, DLS T he recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Congregational Librarian Award from the Church and Synagogue Library Association, Dr. Celestine C. Tutt Bennett retired as librarian from the Whitney M. Young Junior Memorial Library of Social Work at Columbia University in New York City in 1983. From 1971 to 1973, she was the librarian for the University’s Urban Center. Dr. Bennett received a BA in 1952 fromWinston-Salem State University and anMLS in 1971 and DLS in 1983, both fromColumbia University. She was the only African American student in the Library Science Program, and she thanks the many people who were part of the library science program for making her feel comfortable and respected. Following in the footsteps of her influential parents, Dr. Bennett commenced her career as a teacher and followed their advice to do her best. Dr. Bennett is a fellow of the Brookdale Institute of Aging and Adult Human Development and holds a lifetime membership in the American Library Association and The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She currently lives in Oakland, California, where she serves as the librarian for Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church. NEVADA N. BREWER S ince 2012, Nevada N. Brewer has been a teacher supervisor at the Charles H. Hickey Jr. School, with the Maryland State Department of Education, after an illustrious career in teaching and special education. She received her BS in 1973 and holds two MEd degrees in correctional education and special education, all from Coppin State University. Prior to her current role, Ms. Brewer was the teacher supervisor at the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center, with the Maryland State Department of Juvenile Services. Ms. Brewer was coordinator of the mathematics elementary laboratory, academic coach, summer school manager, “Just Say No to Drugs” program coordinator, and teacher for the Baltimore City Public School System. Additionally, Ms. Brewer was the coordinator of the Discipline Center in 2001 and a teacher of the Baltimore County Adult Education from 1977 to 1984. A highlight of Ms. Brewer’s career was being recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1994 and Outstanding Teacher by Iota Phi Lambda in 1993.
