149 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Lisa M. Onishi knew that in building a career for herself, she wanted to make an impact with her work, and she believed that being an engineer would permit her to use an applicable, practical form of science to do so. In 2000, she received a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Washington, and in 2009, she achieved a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of California Berkeley. Since 2010, Dr. Onishi has been a chemical engineer and senior process engineer for Intel Corporation, one of the leading technology corporations in Silicon Valley. Prior to this commitment, she was an engineer at UTC Fuel Cells in South Windsor. From 2001 to 2002, she was a committee member of United Way UTC Fuel Cells, and in 2007, she notably contributed to the Journal of Physical Chemistry. Forhercareersuccess,Dr.Onishiwastherecipient of the Achievement Award from UTC Fuel Cells in 2003 and the Most Popular Poster Presentation Award from the Golden Research Conference in 2002. She has also received an award fromtheGold- en Key International Honour Society. Despite her awards and recognitions, the highlight of Dr. Oni- shi’s career was resolving a 104 year old thermo- dynamic paradox called the Schroeder’s Paradox. Dr. Onishi says that the most rewarding part of her profession is having the opportunity to help people, build them up and make them better en- gineers and thinkers. She also enjoys the process of finding her way to a solution. Whatever it is that is causing something to happen and identifying what the issues are is the beauty of science. The advice that Dr. Onishi can offer the next generation, or others aspiring to work in her pro- fession, is to be passionate, flexible and curious. In her free time, Dr. Onishi enjoys taking new classes, throwing dinner parties, dancing, exer- cising, exploring nature and meeting new people. LISA M.
