176 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W atching his mother thrive as a chief financial officer of a public company, Michael L. Kohner longed for that same fulfillment and respect. He holds aBS in accounting and MS in accounting, both from the University of Florida in Gainesville. A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, he is an accredited estate planner, certified financial planner, certified public accountant and chartered advisor in philanthropy. Since 2018, Mr. Kohner has been the principal in charge of HBK CPAs & Consultants in West Palm Beach, Florida. Prior to his current role, he spent 16 years as co-founder and managing director at Andersen Tax and nine years as a tax partner at Arthur Andersen. His first position was with Price Waterhouse from 1986 to 1992, where he was a tax manager. Specializing in federal and state income tax planning, income tax provisions, financial analysis, deal structuring, mergers and acquisitions, family wealth and charitable gift planning, Mr. Kohner is an author of several articles on the tax ramifications of the personal use of corporate aircraft, tax issues associated with establishing residency and charitable giving strategies. Outside of accounting, Mr. Kohner is a co- founder of Philanthropy Tank, which fuels and inspires the next generation of change leaders. The program challenges, empowers and equips them to develop and execute sustainable initiatives and solutions to problems. Additionally, he is the president of Advisor for Philanthropic Impact and is on the advisory board for the University of Florida Fisher School of Accounting. Mr. Kohner was granted the 2019 Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year Award from Nonprofits First. In 2016 and 2017, he received the Award for Excellence in Tax Law, and also was the winner of Top50EntrepreneursbyBusiness LeaderMagazine in 2012.
