178 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine R alph Roy Whitney Jr. became involved in his profession though financial and personal opportunities, and he is presently a partner to Monument Partners and owner of Red Mountain Ranch in Wyoming. Mr. Whitney received a BA in English and history in 1957 and an MBA in 1972, both from the University of Rochester. Now a certified twin engine pilot and sea captain, Mr. Whitney served with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1963. Prior to his current roles, Mr. Whitney was the chairman of Hammond Kennedy & Whitney in New York City from 1972 to 2007 and president of Warren Components Corp. in Pennsylvania from 1986 to 1972. He spent four years with Wadsworth Manufacturing Associates, Inc., in Syracuse as president, vice president and controller, as well as one year as general agent for National Life Vermont in 1963. Additionally, Mr. Whitney worked with the Prudential Insurance Co. in Rochester, New York, from 1958 to 1963 as a division manager and special agent. Mr. Whitney attributes his career success to persistence, good communication skills and a strong leadership ability. He also owes much of it to his family, as well as his mentor Bob Kennedy for being the reason he felt so motivated to reach new career heights. Looking ahead, Mr. Whitney aims to keep current on all his interests and continue to feel rewarded in his work. Looking back on his eclectic career, Mr. Whitney calls serving as chairman of Excel the highlight of his career, as he was able to take the company public and build it from a $50 million company to a $2 billion company. Mr. Whitney is a member of the New York Yacht Club, New York Lotus Club, Syracuse Century Club, Naples Yacht & Sailing Club and Princeton Club. Additionally, he is a trustee of the University of Rochester, director of the University of Wyoming Foundation, and was chairman and chief executive officer of Grobet File Co. He also sat on the board for Baldwin Tech. Corp., MedTek Inc., Seneca Printing Inc., Dura Automobile Systems Inc and sits on the board of First Internet Bank. RALPH ROY WHITNEY JR.
