181 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D enise Ann Da Moude received a BS in education from Chadron State College in 1976, later becoming a certified teacher by the states of Nebraska and South Dakota. Twenty years later, she continued her studies and achieved an MA in community mental health from Regent University in 1996, which she calls the highlight of her career. Utilizing her educational studies, Ms. Da Moude was a physical education and health teacher and coach at Pine Ridge Middle School in South Dakota from 1977 to 1979 before making a career switch. To kick off the 1980s, Ms. Da Moude spent one year working for the U.S. Forest Service in Chadron, Nebraska, as a dorm supervisor and counselor. By 1981, she was working at the U.S. Postal Service, where she would go on to dedicate the rest of her career. Ms. Da Moude was a city carrier for two years and clerk from 1983 to 1992 in Chadron before being relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia. In her new coastal town, Ms. Da Moude was a city carrier for 10 years and a passport clerk from 2003 until her retirement in 2010. Notably, in 1990, Ms. Da Moude was the recipient of a Girl Scout Appreciation Award. She attributes much of her career and civic success to her mentors Susan and Scott Pennick, whom she met upon her move to Virginia, and Alma and Charles Harnish, her hometown friends. The advice she can offer to those aspiring to work in her profession is to immerse yourself in volunteering, have a mentor and be a mentor, as experience is the most important factor in becoming a skilled professional in any industry. Ms. Da Moude is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, Cardinal Key, Sigma Delta Nu and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. She is also the chair of the board of trustees for the Kempsville Presbyterian Church, where she became an ordained deacon in 2014.
