192 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS D r. James L. Andersen recalls reading up on accomplished doctors while in the ninth grade when he was overcome with inspiration. Mesmerized by their achievements, the young Dr. Andersen sought to be part of the realm of work that made a difference in someone’s life. In 1968, he received a BS in chemistry from Ohio Wesleyan University, and in 1972, he achieved an MD from The Ohio State University. By 1975, he completed a residency and chief residency in family medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Presently, Dr. Andersen has worked out of a private practice, focusing on addiction medicine, since 2016. He has also been a principal investigator for Meridien Research since 2013 and medical director at Lakeland Centres since 1995. Between 1999 and 2018, Dr. Andersen also served as medical director at Bridges International, Bridges of America and Mid-Town Medical Group. In the early years of his career, Dr. Andersen was an emergency roomphysician for EmergencyRoom Associates of Broward in 1975. He then worked out of a mobile Fort Lauderdale practice for 14 years before serving locum tenens for Broward County for one year. In the 1990s, hewas chief physician for Quality Care Bartow, personal physician for Office and Home Care and senior physician at Lakeland Family Health Center. Additionally, he was an approved examiner for Portomedic ExamOne and Superior Mobile Medics from 1994 to 2010. A speaker for the Addiction Policy Forum, Dr. Andersen has also been a clinical assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Miami and was elected to two terms as director of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. Notably, Dr. Andersen has received numerous positive patient reviews. Dr. Andersen is amember of theChristianMedical Dental Associations, an elder of the Presbyterian Church of America, past president of his local chapter of Rotary International, and former fellow of the American Society of ContemporaryMedicine Surgery and Ophthalmology.
