196 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nspired by watching her grandmother care for people, Rose Taylor Calhoun, RN, wanted to honor her grandmother and contribute to bettering the health of everyday people by entering the nursing profession. Ms. Calhoun obtained a BSN from Texas Woman’s University in 1976 and an MEd from the University of Houston in 1980. After a nearly 35-year career in nursing and health care, Ms. Calhoun has served as a health care quality consultant since 2018. Ms. Calhoun commenced her career in 1983 with Hillhaven as a professional services consultant in Tacoma, Washington, before moving to the company’s Southern California region, where she worked as an area admissions and nursing administrator until 1988. From 1988 to 1993, Ms. Calhoun was the director of nursing at Camarillo Convalescent Hospital and then served two years as vice president for Channel Islands Associates. Moving onto higher executive-level positions, Ms. Calhoun spent 1993 to 1998 as chief executive officer of Victoria Care Center, which she calls the highlight of her career, and 1994 to 1998 as chief executive officer of the Victorian. Into the 2000s, Ms. Calhoun served as manager of clinical quality improvement for Blue Cross California until 2006, when she then spent one year as associate vice president of quality for Amerigroup Texas. Taking her experience to the classroom, Ms. Calhoun was an adjunct professor of nursing for target populations at the University of Texas Health Science Center and spent 2007 to 2017 as director of quality and outcomes management for Texas Children’s Health Plan. A certified health education specialist and professional in health care quality, Ms. Calhoun is highly regarded in her field and backed by numerous awards and recognitions. Notably, in 2017, the Houston Chronicle listed her in to the 150 Top Nurses in Houston, and from 2001 to 2005, seven of her projects were Best of Blue Award recipients from Blue Cross Blue Shield. Ms. Calhoun attributes much of her career success to her mentors Margaret Devoir, Angelo Giardino and her uncle, Tim Dendy.
