200 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine G rowing up in the segregated south during the 1950s and 1960s, Dr. Cary Cummings III was discouraged by his teachers from any future endeavor he suggested as a child. With the support and motivation from his family, Dr. Cummings knew he wanted to care for people despite any challenges that could possibly come his way. Proving his teachers wrong, he later graduated with a BS from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1972 and an MD from Meharry Medical College in 1976. Since 2015, Dr. Cummings has served as the medical director of Fox Subacute at Mechanicsburg, LLC, and has also worked out of a private practice since 1984. Board certified in internal medicine, critical care and nephrology, Dr. Cummings completed his postgraduate internship at the University of Rochester. Notably, Dr. Cummings spearheaded the Line Company, which puts in special lines for dialysis patients who have to remain at home or in long term care facilities. In addition to his professional medical career, Dr. Cummings enjoys mentoring children whom he meets through various walks of life. He stresses to each child that no one can tell them what they are or are not capable of, and it is up to them to say, “Yes, I can do it.” Having had this mindset as a child while facing prejudice and discrimination, Dr. Cummings knows how greatness can be achieved. For his mentorship, Dr. Cummings has twice been named Teacher of the Year. Dr. Cummings is a member of the International Society of Nephrology, American College of Physicians, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Dauphin County Medical Society and the American Society of Internal Medicine. He is also a fellow of the Medical Board of Pennsylvania, Cornell Medical Center and the University of California San Francisco. In five years’ time, Dr. Cummings hopes to still be working and contributing to bettering his patients’ lives. In his free time, he enjoys tennis, exercising, gardening, yard work and spending time at his summer home.
