201 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S usan Lynn Rabinowitz Davis, MSS, received a BA in philosophy from the Connecticut College for Women in 1964 and MSS from Bryn Mawr College in 1968. A distinguished social worker and therapist, in 1978, she and her psychiatrist husband spearheaded the Family Therapy Institute of Alexandria, Virginia. The objective was coherently to integrate different schools of therapy to optimize results, and to teach this approach. Starting as the only two practitioners, they grew to employ nine therapists. Ms. Davis co-developed and taught the family therapy training, a Neuro-Linguistic Programming certification training program, and also innovated work with attention deficit disorder (ADD) patients, spouses and families, using elements of Time Line Therapy. Ms. Davis served as an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Child and Family Development at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In 1971, she was co-leader of a parent-student group at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, and from 1969 to 1970, a clinical instructor at the Northwestern University Medical School. For one year prior, she was a social worker at Case Western Reserve University’s Mental Development Center, and had also been a field worker with Bryn Mawr’s Child Development Center and the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute. Ms. Davis commenced her career in 1965 as a caseworker for the Philadelphia State Reception Center. Ms. Davis is proud to have expanded access to the developing field of ADD/ADHD in 1999. Having secured several scarce and coveted copies of The Proceedings of the National Institutes of Health Symposium on ADD/ADHD, she brought them to several developing Asian countries, starting their national libraries on this subject. A contributor to articles in professional journals, she has presented at international meetings. Ms. Davis is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers and an early member of the American Family Therapy Association. She was also a fellow of the American Orthopsychiatric Association.
