230 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S pecializing in family medicine, women’s health, obstetrics and geriatrics, Dr. Schlaerth received a BA in natural science from Manhattanville College in 1964 and obtained an MD from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, now the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, in 1968. By 1973, she completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and a fellowship in infectious disease at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. Serving as a preceptor at the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and at Loma Linda University’s Family Health Center since 2011, Dr. Schlaerth has also been an attending physician of pediatrics and family medicine at the California Hospital Medical Center since 1999. Additionally, she is coordinator of pediatrics curriculum at the Pomona Valley Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency Program, as well as a physician at Omni Health Services. Over the years, Dr. Schlaerth has also taught at the University of Southern California. Prior to her current roles, Dr. Schlaerth was a preceptor of the residency programs at the USC Family Medicine Center at California Hospital, Whittier-PIH Health and USC’s University Hospital St. Luke’s Medical Center. In the 1980s and 1990s, Dr. Schlaerth was an inpatient attending physician at the USC University Hospital and LAC-USC Medical Center, as well as an academic advisor and faculty advisor of African-Americans in medicine at USC. Through her work as a researcher within factors affecting initiation and continuation of lactation in inner-city African American-Hispanic mothers, geriatric street drug abuse for the Journal of Addictive Medicine, senior use of electronic communications and large families, Dr. Schlaerth has been the recipient of numerous accolades. Notably, she was named Teacher of the Year by the Pomona Valley Medical Center, Loma Linda University, Natividad Medical Center and USC.
