244 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS I nitially earning a degree in psychology, Dr. Britt Nelson uncovered a passion for pediatric critical care when treating children with life-threatening illnesses. He received an MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1980, and then completed a pediatric residency and critical care fellowship by 1985. Dr. Nelson became the medical director of Critical Care Pediatrics and Transport at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1990. After two decades, Dr. Nelson became an executive for the Cook Children’s Health Care System as president of the Physician Network. Dr. Nelson was named in Best Doctors for multiple years, as well as in Top Doctors by Texas Monthly. Fort Worth, Inc., magazine named him in the “400 of the Most Influential People in Fort Worth” and the D CEO named him in the “Dallas 500” – the 500 most influential individuals in Dallas. He was named the Distinguished Physician by the Cook Children’s Physician Network in 2005. Dr. Nelson travels in Christian Outreach to Albania, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Mexico teaching medical transport and rescue. WM. Thomas John Prendergast Jr. received a BA and an MD, both from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis before serving in the U.S. Army Reserves as a major from 1968 to 1971, for which he received an Army Commendation Medal. Dr. Prendergast subsequently obtained an MPH from the University of North Carolina. Commencing his career in 1971, Dr. Prendergast was an associate at the Duke University Medical Center and assistant professor at the University of Missouri. He also served as an associate clinical professor at the University of California Irvine and Loma Linda University. From 1977 to 1990, he was director of epidemiology and disease control at the Orange County Health Care Agency. Thereafter, he served the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health as a deputy director, health officer and director until his retirement in 2004. Dr. Prendergast earned the Distinguished Service Award from the AIDS Response Program in 1986 for his contributions to treat and prevent HIV/AIDS.
