266 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine I nterested in law since his undergraduate studies at Villanova University, Robert A. Godwin earned a BS in 1960 and JD in 1963. Admitted to the Pennsylvania Superior and Supreme Courts, he was also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and in 1980, the U.S. Supreme Court. At the inception of his career in 1964, Mr. Godwin served as a volunteer defender with the Defenders Association of Philadelphia before serving in active duty for the USMC. After his discharge in 1968, he was an associate at Eastburn & Gray in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He was an assistant public defender in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, from 1970 to 1972 while commencing his own private practice in law in Newtown, Pennsylvania. A former partner of Timby & Godwin, he has served as principle attorney at Robert A. Godwin & Associates since 1975. Mr. Godwin was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1961 in the USMC, and subsequently served as senior defense counsel for the 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam. Between 1966 and 1968, he served as senior trial counsel for the Marine Corp Base in Camp Pendleton, California. After release from active duty, he joined the USMC Reserve in 1969. In 1983, he was promoted to Colonel. He continued to serve in the active reserve until 1992. At retirement, he was serving as Assistant Director for Reserve Affairs for the Judge Advocate Division of the USMC. Mr. Godwin has received the following awards: Legion of Merit, Presidential Unit Citation, Selected Marine Corps Reserve with Four Stars, National Defense Service with One Star, Vietnam Service with Two Stars, Armed Forces Reserve with Device, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and Republic of Vietnam Campaign with Device. Mr. Godwin has been active with the Rotary Club for 30 years. Prior, he was an active member of the Exchange Club of Newtown, where he served as president, vice president or director.
