275 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine J ohn Norman MacKay received a BA in history from the University of Oklahoma in 1968 and immediately joined the U.S. Navy to serve during the VietnamWar. From 1968 to 1972, he worked as an aviation electronics technician and was on active sea duty with the Antarctic Development Squadron 6 (VXE-6) the Puckered Penguins. Upon his exit from the military, Mr. MacKay completed his LSAT exam, achieving within the 99 percentile, and went on to obtain a JD, summa cum laude, from The Ohio State University in 1975. Mr. MacKay was admitted to practice law in Ohio in 1975 and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in 1976. Since his law school graduation, he has served as a partner at Schumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP in Toledo for the past 45 years. Additionally, Mr. MacKay has previously worked as an adjunct faculty in commercial transactions, payment systems and legal drafting at the University of Toledo’s College of Law and was an official and general counsel for Ohio Swimming, Inc. Notably, Mr. MacKay holds an AV Rating by Martindale-Hubbell and was featured in the Toledo Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in Toledo Area Law.” Additionally, in 2013 and 2016, he was named Toledo Banking & Finance Law Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers, and for 11 consecutive years, was named to Best Lawyers in America. Throughout his career, he has immensely enjoyed helping people with his expertise, whether it be transactional or litigation work. He feels fortunate to have worked with extremely successful and competent clients and lawyers. Mr. MacKay is a member of the American Bar Association’s Center for Professional Responsibility, Forum on Construction Law, Law Practice Division, Litigation, Real Property, Trust and Estate LawGroups, and the Ohio Bar Association’s Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. He also holds membership with the Toledo Bar Association and its Grievance Committee, Toledo Club of North Cape Yacht Club, Catawba Island Club Inns of Court and Rotary Club, and serves as president and executive committee member of the Morrison R.
