INTERIOR ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER Arthur Gensler Associates Las Vegas, NV G rowing up on a large Idaho ranch, the late Ival “Val” Crandall Thornton discovered drawing, and soon became passionate about architecture. From then until his passing, he had an eclectic career as an interior architectural designer throughout Europe and North America. Notably, he painted 44,000 square feet of murals in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the Salt Lake Temple in Utah. After studying at the Colorado Institute of Art, Mr. Thornton was a conceptual architectural designer for architectural firms throughout Las Vegas. In Los Angeles, he was an architectural and interior designer, artist and illustrator, and most recently, a senior associate at Arthur Gensler Associates in San Francisco. Principal works to his credit have included two personal jets for Frank Sinatra, various designs for Ford Motor Company, the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace and the Shah of Iran’s 747 jets. Mr. Thornton was also involved in projects with Investment Mortgage International and Grand Princess Cruise ships. Inducted into the Mountain Bell Training Center Hall of Fame, Mr. Thornton has been remembered for his creativity. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, two children, six grandchildren and one great-grand child.
