286 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine RICHARD GORDON R ichard Gordon received a BA in cultural anthropology, with special honors, from the University of Chicago and JD from New York University. In 2017, he retired from the Time Oil Company, where he served as General Counsel from 2001 to 2017 and previously as Corporate Counsel from 1985 to 2001. Commencing his career with the American Bar Foundation in Chicago as a research assistant, Mr. Gordon subsequently served as the State of Montana’s first full-time Water Rights Hearing Examiner, as well as a Special Assistant Attorney General at the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. Moving to Seattle, Washington, he was Assistant Regional Counsel at the U.S. Department of Energy, Region X, and was an associate at the Heckendorn Law Firm. Mr. Gordon is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, where he has served on the environmental and land use section and the corporate law department section. Among his many accomplishments, he is proudest of being a recurring guest lecturer at Peking University Law School and Beijing Normal University Law School in China. He cherishes his deep connections to Chinese culture through his wife, Jing Wu. DAVID A. HOINES, ESQ. E ntering the field of law because of its companionable atmosphere during the baby boomer generation, David A. Hoines, Esq., has worked out of a Fort Lauderdale private practice since 1975 and has been an adjunct professor at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law since 1977. Specializing in quality of life issues, Mr. Hoines is renowned for his 1970s case that resulted in living wills, health care surrogate designations, and the choice to refuse medical care. Mr. Hoines received a BA from California State University in 1969, a JD from Santa Clara University in 1972, and an LLM in taxation from Boston University in 1973. The author of “Taxman and the Textbook,” Mr. Hoines encourages aspiring lawyers to remember how rewarding the profession can be despite its complexities and, at times, polarizing politics. Mr. Hoines is a member of the American Association for Justice, Broward County Bar Association, Hundred Club of Broward County and Tau Delta Phi. He is also a fellow of the American Bar Association.
