287 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine LAWYER Fredericksburg, TX ATTORNEY (RETIRED) Lake George, NY B acked by more than five decades of experience, Alan Huntress Minter, has emerged as an expert in historical preservation for Texas and local historical organizations. Mr. Minter earned a BA from the University of Texas in 1962. Originally pursuing a career in medicine, Mr. Minter fell in love with law and obtained a JD from the UT School of Law in 1965. Mr. Minter gained valuable experience as an assistant attorney general in the state of Texas Attorney General’s Office and in 1971 launched a private practice in Austin. Mr. Minter considers his work in preserving land for the Tigua and Alabama-Coushatta Indians to be the highlight of his career – he was named an honorary member of the latter tribe in 1989. In 1967 the author and speaker filed an aboriginal land claim and breach of trust action for the Alabama- Coushatta Indians against the U.S., which resulted in a landmark ruling in 2000. A fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Mr. Minter was notably presented the award of excellence by the State Bar of Texas’ American Indian Law Section and was commended with a U. S. Associate Government Appeal Agent Certificate of Appreciation. ALAN HUNTRESS MINTER, JD G eorge A. Mathewson received his college degree from Amherst College, cum laude with Honors, in English in 1957, his law degree from Cornell Law School in 1960 and a Master of Law from the University of Michigan Law School in 1961. He started his career at the Federal Trade Commission in 1963 in the Office of Special Legal Assistants, and then served as a trial attorney in the Division of Mergers. Mr. Mathewson then opened his own law firm in Syracuse, New York, in 1966, fromwhich he continued his private law practice for the next 37 years, except for a stint as regional attorney for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation from 1971 to 1972. He has been a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association for over 55 years, and also served as president and vice president of a local Kiwanis Club. He also taught at Onondaga Community College for six years.
