29 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ROBERT C. BARON PUBLISHING EXECUTIVE Fulcrum Publishing Inc. Golden, CO W hen Robert C. Baron turned 50 years old, he decided he wanted to take a different career path from his previous one in the technology industry. Due to his desire to be around creative people, Mr. Baron founded his own book publishing company, Fulcrum Publishing Inc., in 1984. He says, “If you don’t ask yourself what you want to be when you grow up every ten years, you’re in a rut.” Mr. Baron also founded the International League of Conservation Writers in 2010, Films by Fulcrum and 3rd Third, an educational program for older Americans. Mr. Baron received a BS in physics from St. Joseph’s in 1956 and started his career at RCA in Camden, New Jersey, and Computer Control Company in Framingham, Massachusetts. He was in the early days of three industries: computers, semiconductors and space. In the 1960s, he was program manager for Mariner II (Venus) and Mariner IV (Mars) on board computers. He founded and was President and chief executive officer of Prime Computer from 1971 to 1975. Before opening his publishing company, he was in private practice in Boston between 1976 and 1982. In 2018, the Writers Guild of America honored Mr. Baron, his wife Charlotte and Fulcrum for Distinguished Service to the Literary Community. Additionally “The Light Shines from the West: A Western Perspective on the Growth of America,” written by Mr. Baron, won Best Book in American History by the Independent Press Association in 2019. Mr. Baron was the recipient of the Rittenhouse Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2001. Mr. Baron is amember of the Hakluyt Society, the International Wilderness Leadership Foundation, Thoreau Society, Cactus Club, Explorer’s Club, and the Grolier Society. He is also a fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society and the American Antiquarian Society, where he was Chair for 10 years.
