290 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Fred W. Cooper was a university professor who fell into sales. His student at the University of Utah was working for Grant Thornton, having difficulty solving a complex commission payout problem for the USANA compensation plan. The student suggested that he bring in his professor, Dr. Cooper, to solve the problem. Dr. Cooper impressed the corporate team with his accuracy and ease in mathematically deriving the solution. He was eventually hired as a full-time employee with USANA, and his career in direct sales began. Dr. Cooper received a BS in psychology in 1988, BS in finance in 1988 and PhD in business administration in 1994, all from the University of Utah. Between 1988 and 2005, he served as an adjunct professor for the University of Utah. He also served as chief operating officer of Synecor Corporation and president and chief executive officer of Fashion Academy. Subsequently, he worked for a subsidiary of Aetna in corporate network operations and Human Affairs International as director of marketing research before entering the direct sales industry. At Usana Heath Sciences, Dr. Cooper began as a director, vice president of information technology, chief operating officer, and ultimately worldwide president and chief operating officer. In 2011, he founded ARIIX and currently serves as chief executive officer. While in academia, Dr. Cooper was a consultant to numerous companies in the direct selling and mainstream industries such as Toyota and Nucor Corp. He has published articles in professional journals and is a professional speaker at schools, universities and public forums. In 2018, he was granted an honorary professorship at the University of International Business and Economics in China. Named a Top Direct Selling CEO in the World by Business for Home in 2015, Dr. Cooper attributes his success to good fortune. Of his various awards, he is proudest of being named CEO Achievers Transformation Leader of the Year by CEO World Awards in 2019. FRED W.
