294 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Bennett is a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) fellow and executive advisor emeritus. He retired in 2015 from NIST and established AltaTech Strategiesa, LLC, a consulting company in the areas of emerging technologies, international standards and associated measurements, and technology roadmaps. Dr. Bennett received a BA, magna cum laude, from Harvard College, an MS in physics and mathematics from the University of Maryland and a PhD in physics, with high honors, from Harvard University. Dr. Bennett was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment and the University of Illinois. He began his career as a theoretical solid-state physicist with the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) in 1966. He was designated from 1971 to 1972 as a commerce science and technology fellow by the Department of Commerce (DOC) and served as the special assistant to the DOC assistant secretary for science and technology. From 1972 to 1977, he was chief of the NBS Solid-State Materials Section, and from 1977 to 1980, director of the Materials Research Division at the National Science Foundation. In 1979, he became a charter member of the United States Senior Executive Service. He returned to NBS in 1980 and served through 2015 as the leader of multiple groups, senior scientist and executive advisor. He became an NIST fellow and executive advisor in 1998. Dr. Bennett provided professional expertise to international conferences, international standards organizations, and industrial consensus-based re- search plans for emerging technologies. He published over 200 refereed-ar- chival publications and gave over 170 invited presentations across the globe. Dr. Bennett received Maryland’s Outstanding Young Scientist Award, was elected twice as voting member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Electron Devices Society Administrative Committee, and is a fellow of IEEE, American Physical Society and Materials Research Society. He was an IEEE EDS distinguished lecturer and recipient of the DOC Bronze Medal Award. He elected twice as voting member of board of governors for the IEEE Standards Association and earned the IEEE-SA Emerging Technology Award.
