296 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Rocco DiFoggio always wondered what made things work and how exactly they operated. Simply put, his own curiosity encouraged him to pursue a career in physics, which has made for an honorable career in science. Dr. DiFoggio received a BS in 1974 from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and went on to obtain an MS in 1977 and PhD in 1980, both from the University of Chicago. Since 1997, Dr. DiFoggio has served as a physicist and technical advisor at Baker Hughes, an international industrial service company and one of the world’s largest oil field services companies. In 2015, he was the recipient of the prestigious Baker Hughes Lifetime Technology Achievement Award, and he has also taken home the Baker Hughes Chairman’s Award. Commencing his career in 1974, Dr. DiFoggio started off as a teaching and research associate at the University of Chicago. Six years later, in 1980, he moved up to research associate, which led to his first role outside of the university with the Shell Oil Company in Houston. He worked for the world-renowned oil company as a research physicist until 1988, and from 1988 to 1996, he served as a director of technology at Core Laboratories in Houston, a service provider of core and fluid analysis in the petroleum industry. Notably holding 156 patents in the field, averaging eight patents per year, Dr. DiFoggio is a contributor to numerous articles in scientific journals. Additionally, Dr. DiFoggio has been awarded the Litton Award for Digital Color Image Analysis of Rock Cores and the Nottingham Prize from the Conference on Physical Electronics. Dr. DiFoggio is a member of the American Physical Society, American Chemical Society, Society of Petroleum Well Log Analysts, Society of Petroleum Engineers and Society of Applied Spectroscopy. From 1991 to 1996, he served as an officer to the American Society for Testing and Materials’ Near-Infrared Study Group.
