297 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. John G. Eoll has always loved astronomy and was deeply interested in the environment and reducing pollution. He received a BS in physics from Wayne State University in 1964 and went on to obtain an MA in astronomy in 1971 and PhD in astrophysics in 1974, both from Indiana University Bloomington. Dr. Eoll served active duty with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1966 to 1970, and later served with the reserves, retiring as commander in 1983. Loyal to his military roots, Dr. Eoll later was a consultant to the Naval Surface Weapons Center’s Air Force Weapons Laboratory. Commencing his career as an assistant professor of physics at Lenoir- Rhyne College, Dr. Eoll was known for giving lectures in parks. By 1976, he took on his first research-driven position as a staff member at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Serving in this capacity from 1976 to 1980, he returned to Lenoir-Rhyne, where he took on the role of professor and acting chair of the physics department until 1984. From 1984 to 1990, he was a senior scientist at Science & Engineering Associates in Salem, Massachusetts. After leaving S.E.A., Dr. Eoll made numerous trips to Mexico City with his friend, Juan Huertas, to work on alleviating the air pollution. He then worked in aerospace avionics and national security at ENSCO in Melbourne, Florida. Dr. Eoll was a fellow of various institutions to improve his skillsets and expand his professional horizons. He was an Indiana University Bloomington Fellow from 1969 to 1973 and a Navy-American Society of Engineering Education Fellow in 1981.
